Taste (Australian band)
Taste was an Australian blues rock band formed in Melbourne in 1971. The group is notable for featuring future Cold Chisel members Don Walker (keyboards) and Steve Prestwich (drums).
History:
Taste was formed after the demise of an earlier band called Lotus, which also included Walker and Prestwich. The lineup of Taste comprised Mick Manzie (guitar, vocals), Don Walker (keyboards, vocals), Steve Prestwich (drums), and John Strangio (bass). The band played extensively in the Melbourne pub rock scene during the early 1970s, gaining a reputation for their energetic live performances and blues-based sound.
Taste released a self-titled album in 1972. Although the album did not achieve significant commercial success, it is regarded as a significant early work for both Walker and Prestwich.
Legacy:
Taste disbanded in 1973. Shortly after, Walker and Prestwich relocated to Sydney and joined Cold Chisel, where they would achieve considerable national and international recognition. Despite its relatively short lifespan, Taste is remembered as an important precursor to Cold Chisel and a significant contributor to the Melbourne pub rock scene of the early 1970s. While Mick Manzie and John Strangio's subsequent musical activities are less well-documented, Taste remains a notable entry in their individual musical histories as well.
