Tallow (Parliament of Ireland constituency)
Tallow was a parliamentary borough in County Waterford, Ireland, represented in the Parliament of Ireland. It was enfranchised in 1613 and disenfranchised under the Acts of Union 1800, with effect from 1 January 1801.
The borough constituency was located in the town of Tallow. It was a pocket borough, effectively controlled by a single patron, typically a local landowner. Representation consisted of two Members of Parliament.
Notable Members of Parliament for Tallow included:
- Sir Walter Raleigh (1589) - Though this was before Tallow was formally a parliamentary borough.
- Various members of the Power family of Curraghmore.
- Various members of the Grattan family.
The records of the constituency are relatively sparse. The primary source of information is the list of members of parliament who represented it, and the knowledge of its status as a pocket borough suggests that its representation was not broadly based.
