Ted Noffs

Ted Noffs (1926-1995) was an Australian Methodist minister and social reformer, best known for his pioneering work with disadvantaged youth. He founded the Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross, Sydney, in 1964, transforming it into a vibrant and accepting community centre for people struggling with homelessness, drug addiction, mental health issues, and social isolation. Noffs' approach was revolutionary for its time, focusing on unconditional love, acceptance, and providing a safe space for individuals often rejected by mainstream society.

Noffs advocated for decriminalizing drug use and providing harm reduction services, years before such policies were widely accepted. He believed in addressing the root causes of social problems rather than simply punishing those affected. His work extended beyond the Wayside Chapel, including establishing crisis centers, youth refuges, and other outreach programs.
