Shadow Knight (Amber Diceless Roleplaying Game)
A Shadow Knight in the context of the Amber Diceless Roleplaying Game refers to a knight created and sustained within a Pattern or Logrus shadow. These knights are not necessarily inheritors of Amber or Chaos, nor are they traditionally trained knights in the conventional sense. Instead, they are constructs, shaped by the Pattern or Logrus of a shadow world, and imbued with a sense of duty or purpose dictated by that world’s logic and history.
Shadow Knights may appear similar to knights from other realities, wearing armor, wielding weapons, and adhering to a code of conduct (though often one alien to Amberites). However, their very existence is tied to the shadow in which they exist. Removing them from that shadow, or significantly altering the shadow’s reality, can have detrimental effects, ranging from weakening their abilities to their complete dissolution.
The strength, abilities, and nature of a Shadow Knight are directly influenced by the strength and nature of the shadow from which they originate. A knight from a shadow closely mirroring Amber might be nearly indistinguishable from a "real" knight, while one from a more fantastical or chaotic shadow could possess strange powers or follow bizarre customs. They can serve as guardians, antagonists, allies, or simply inhabitants of a particular shadow world encountered by Amberite characters. The creation and control of Shadow Knights by Amber or Chaos powers is theoretically possible, although doing so presents inherent risks and requires a deep understanding of shadow dynamics.
