BharOS
BharOS is a mobile operating system developed in India by JandK Operations Private Limited (JandKops), incubated at IIT Madras. It is designed as a privacy-focused mobile operating system intended for use in organizations that require heightened security and control over their data.
BharOS is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). It distinguishes itself through its focus on providing users with more control over the apps they install and the permissions they grant to those apps. One key feature is its "No Default Apps" (NDA) service. This allows users to choose which applications they want on their device, rather than having pre-installed apps that may consume resources or raise privacy concerns.
The operating system also offers options for organizations to install Private App Store Services (PASS) that provide access to curated and trusted applications. This enables organizations to offer a secure and tailored app ecosystem for their employees or users.
BharOS aims to reduce dependency on foreign operating systems and promotes indigenous technological development. It is intended for use across various sectors, including government, public sector undertakings, and private companies where data security is a paramount concern. Development of BharOS is ongoing with the goal of improving its features, security, and user experience.
