3. Liga (Slovakia)
The 3. Liga (Slovakia) is the third tier of football in Slovakia. It sits below the 2. Liga and above the fourth-tier leagues (4. Liga). The 3. Liga is divided into two groups: 3. Liga Bratislava (covering the Bratislava region) and 3. Liga Západ (West), 3. Liga Stred (Central), and 3. Liga Východ (East). Each group generally consists of 16 teams, although this number can vary slightly depending on the season and administrative decisions by the Slovak Football Association (SFZ).
At the end of each season, the winners of the 3. Liga groups are eligible for promotion to the 2. Liga, subject to meeting the licensing requirements set forth by the SFZ. Teams finishing at the bottom of the tables in each group are relegated to the 4. Liga. The exact number of relegated teams may vary depending on the structure of the lower leagues.
The 3. Liga plays a vital role in the development of Slovak football, providing a platform for young players to gain experience and for smaller clubs to compete at a relatively high level. The league also serves as a bridge between amateur and professional football in Slovakia.
