HMS Surinam (1805)

HMS Surinam was a British Royal Navy Cruizer-class brig-sloop launched in 1805. She served actively during the Napoleonic Wars, primarily in the Caribbean and off the coasts of North and South America.

Notable actions during her service included:

• Capture of Enemy Vessels: Surinam was successful in capturing numerous privateers and merchant vessels belonging to France and Spain.
• Anti-Slavery Patrols: She participated in suppressing the illegal slave trade in the Caribbean.
• Blockade Duty: Surinam was frequently assigned to blockade enemy ports, restricting maritime traffic and disrupting enemy supply lines.

Surinam was eventually sold out of the navy in 1816. Her service highlights the important role of smaller vessels like brig-sloops in maintaining British naval dominance during the Napoleonic era.
