Landline (film)
Landline is a 2017 American comedy film directed by Gillian Robespierre, from a screenplay co-written with Elisabeth Holm. The film stars Jenny Slate, Abby Quinn, John Turturro, Edie Falco, Jay Duplass, and Finn Wittrock.
The story revolves around the Jacobs family in 1995 Manhattan during a hot summer. When 17-year-old Ali Jacobs (Quinn) discovers a mysterious floppy disk in her father Alan's (Turturro) office, she begins to suspect he is having an affair. Ali enlists the help of her older sister, Dana (Slate), who is herself grappling with her own issues, including a stalled engagement and uncertainty about her future. Together, the sisters embark on a comedic and sometimes awkward investigation into their father's potential infidelity, uncovering truths about themselves and their family dynamics in the process.
Landline explores themes of family relationships, teenage angst, marital stress, the complexities of love and commitment, and the challenges of communication, all set against the backdrop of 1990s New York City. The film premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically by Amazon Studios.
