Czorsztyn

Czorsztyn is a village located in southern Poland, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship (Małopolskie województwo), Nowy Targ County, within the Gmina Czorsztyn (Czorsztyn Commune). It is situated on the northern shore of Lake Czorsztyn (Jezioro Czorsztyńskie), near the Pieniny National Park.

History:

Czorsztyn boasts a rich history, dating back to the medieval period. The most prominent feature of the village is the ruins of Czorsztyn Castle (Zamek Czorsztyński), a medieval fortress strategically positioned on a hilltop overlooking the Dunajec River gorge. The castle's construction began in the 13th century and it served as a crucial border defense point throughout its history. Ownership of the castle changed hands numerous times throughout the centuries, with various noble families and royal figures holding sway. The castle suffered damage and decline over time, particularly during conflicts and periods of neglect.

Situated on the shores of Lake Czorsztyn and adjacent to the Pieniny Mountains, the village offers stunning views and access to a variety of outdoor activities.
