Robert Shaw (judge)
Robert Shaw is a judge who has served on the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He was nominated by President George W. Bush on February 14, 2006, and confirmed by the United States Senate on July 18, 2006. He received his commission on July 24, 2006.
Judge Shaw earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 1968. He subsequently served in the United States Navy for five years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. After his naval service, he attended the University of Virginia School of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1976.
Prior to his appointment to the Federal Circuit, Shaw practiced law in Washington, D.C., specializing in intellectual property law. He has extensive experience in patent litigation and other areas of intellectual property law. He is known for his expertise in patent law and his contributions to jurisprudence in that field. His judicial philosophy is generally considered conservative. He retired from the court on July 24, 2021.
