Strife (band)

Strife is an American hardcore punk band from Thousand Oaks, California, formed in 1991. They are known for their heavy, metallic sound, positive messages, and promotion of straight edge values. Strife is considered a significant band in the development of the metallic hardcore subgenre.

The band's original lineup consisted of Rick Rodney on vocals, Andrew Kline and Chad Peterson on guitars, Todd Turnham on bass, and Sid Niesen on drums. Their early releases, including the demo tape "In This Defiance" and the 7" EP "My Fire Burns On," quickly gained them a following within the hardcore scene.

Strife's breakthrough came with the release of their debut album, "One Truth," in 1994 on Victory Records. The album's blend of hardcore energy and metal influences, coupled with Rodney's intense vocals and lyrics promoting self-reliance and a positive outlook, resonated with a wide audience. They followed this up with "In This Defiance" in 1995, also on Victory Records, further cementing their place in the hardcore scene.

Their third album, "Angermeans," released in 1997, saw the band experimenting with a slightly different sound, incorporating more metal elements and a generally darker tone. After "Angermeans," Strife took a hiatus.

They reunited in the early 2000s and have since released further albums, including "Truth Through Defiance" (2001), "Witness a Rebirth" (2002), and "Incision" (2012). Strife continues to tour and perform, maintaining a dedicated fanbase due to their energetic live shows and commitment to their core values. Their influence can be heard in many contemporary hardcore and metalcore bands.
