Neil McLeod (politician)

Neil McLeod (born December 15, 1842, died October 11, 1915) was a Canadian lawyer, judge, and politician. He served as the 6th Premier of Prince Edward Island from 1889 to 1891.

Born in Uigg, Prince Edward Island, McLeod studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1872. He entered provincial politics and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island as a Conservative. He became Premier in 1889, succeeding William Wilfred Sullivan.

During his premiership, McLeod focused on issues such as land reform and the financial stability of the province. His government faced challenges including economic downturns and debates surrounding Confederation terms with Canada.

McLeod's government was defeated in the 1891 election. Following his time as premier, he served as a judge of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island from 1894 until his death in 1915. He is remembered for his contributions to the legal system and political landscape of Prince Edward Island during a critical period in its history.
