East Suffolk (county)
East Suffolk is a non-metropolitan county in England, formed on 1 April 2019 as a result of a structural change to local government in Suffolk. It encompasses the former Suffolk Coastal and Waveney districts. The county council is East Suffolk Council.
The county is located in the eastern part of Suffolk, bordering Norfolk to the north, the North Sea to the east, and Mid Suffolk to the west. Its major towns include Lowestoft, Felixstowe, Woodbridge, and Beccles. The area is largely rural, with a coastline characterised by estuaries, sandy beaches, and heathland.
East Suffolk's economy is diverse, with significant sectors including tourism, agriculture, energy (particularly renewable energy), and port operations at Felixstowe. The county has a rich history, reflected in its numerous historic buildings, archaeological sites, and museums. Key geographical features include the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Broads National Park (partly located within East Suffolk), and the rivers Deben, Orwell, and Waveney.
