Rhoicinus
Rhoicinus is a genus of spiders belonging to the family Ricinuleidae, also known as hooded tickspiders. These are small, rare arachnids found primarily in tropical regions of Central and South America.
Ricinuleids are characterized by a unique hinged cucullus, or hood, that can be lowered over the head and mouthparts, offering protection. This hood is a defining feature of the order.
Rhoicinus species are generally found in leaf litter, caves, and other humid microhabitats. They are believed to be predators of small invertebrates.
Due to their cryptic nature and limited distribution, relatively little is known about the specific behavior, ecology, and life cycle of Rhoicinus species. Taxonomy within the genus is also subject to revision as new species are discovered and studied. Research into the Rhoicinus genus and Ricinuleidae in general continues to expand our understanding of arachnid evolution and biodiversity.
