Luingne

Luingne is a small, uninhabited island located off the west coast of Scotland, part of the Slate Islands archipelago within Argyll and Bute. It lies between the islands of Belnahua and Scarba. The island is primarily known for its slate quarries, which were actively worked in the 18th and 19th centuries. These quarries are now abandoned and form a significant feature of the island's landscape.

The island’s name likely derives from Gaelic. While a definitive etymology is difficult to ascertain, "Luingne" may be related to terms signifying a vessel or a place associated with ships, potentially referencing its coastal location and past maritime activities, including the transport of slate.

Luingne's landscape is characterized by rocky terrain, remnants of the slate industry (including flooded quarries and spoil heaps), and sparse vegetation.
