Pye Min

Pye Min (Burmese: ပြည်မင်း) refers primarily to a historical figure, specifically King Pye Min of Burma (Myanmar). He reigned from 1846 to 1853 during the Konbaung dynasty. His reign was marked by internal rebellions and external pressures from the British, ultimately leading to the Second Anglo-Burmese War.

Beyond the historical monarch, "Pye Min" could also potentially refer to things related to the city of Pyay (formerly Prome) in Myanmar. However, without further context, the term almost invariably alludes to the king.

King Pye Min inherited a kingdom already facing significant challenges. He attempted to modernize the military, but his efforts were hampered by financial constraints and internal opposition. He is often viewed unfavorably in Burmese history due to his perceived weakness and the loss of territory during his reign. The Second Anglo-Burmese War, triggered by disputes over trade and perceived mistreatment of British subjects, resulted in the annexation of Lower Burma by the British Empire. After this defeat, he was deposed by his half-brother, Mindon Min.
