Princess Hilda of Luxembourg (1897–1979)
Princess Hilda of Luxembourg (Hilda Sophie Marie Adelheid Wilhelmine, Luxembourgish: Hilda Sophie Marie Adelheid Wilhelmine vu Lëtzebuerg; 15 February 1897 – 8 September 1979) was a member of the Luxembourgish grand ducal family. She was the fourth daughter of Grand Duke William IV and Grand Duchess Marie Anne of Luxembourg.
Born in Berg Castle, Luxembourg, Princess Hilda married Adolf, Prince of Schwarzenberg, on 29 October 1930 at Berg Castle. Adolf was the son of Johann, Prince of Schwarzenberg, and Countess Therese of Trauttmansdorff-Weinberg und Hypersdorf.
During World War II, the Schwarzenberg family suffered greatly due to their opposition to the Nazi regime. Prince Adolf was arrested in 1940 and imprisoned in several concentration camps. The family's extensive properties in Bohemia and Moravia were seized by the Nazi government.
Following the war, the Schwarzenberg family faced further hardship under the communist government in Czechoslovakia, which nationalized their remaining assets. Princess Hilda and Prince Adolf eventually relocated to Austria.
Princess Hilda of Luxembourg dedicated much of her life to charitable endeavors. She passed away in 1979 and is buried alongside her husband in Murau, Austria. She left no children. Her life represents a story of resilience and quiet dignity in the face of profound historical upheaval.
