George Henderson (bishop)

George Henderson (born circa 1470s, died 1550) was a Scottish cleric who served as Bishop of Dunkeld from 1543 until his death.

Henderson, a canon of Dunkeld Cathedral, was appointed to the bishopric upon the death of Bishop John Hamilton, although some sources suggest he was not the first choice. His confirmation was a matter of some delay. He was a relatively obscure figure, and little is recorded of his activities as bishop. He is known to have overseen repairs and maintenance of properties belonging to the bishopric.

He held the position during a turbulent period in Scottish history, marked by the rise of Protestantism and increasing tensions between Scotland and England. The Scottish Reformation, which would fundamentally alter the religious landscape of Scotland, was gaining momentum during his tenure. Henderson died in 1550 and was succeeded by Donald Campbell.
