Jenny Wilson (politician)
Jenny Wilson (born October 11, 1966) is an American politician from Utah. She is currently the Salt Lake County Mayor, a position she has held since January 2, 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, Wilson has served in various public and political roles throughout her career.
Prior to becoming Mayor, Wilson served for 14 years as a Salt Lake County Councilmember, first elected in 2004. She also served as a senior advisor to Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon. She has run for U.S. Senate twice, in 2010 and 2020, against Republican incumbents Mike Lee and Mitt Romney, respectively, but was unsuccessful in both bids.
As Mayor, Wilson has focused on issues such as affordable housing, environmental sustainability, transportation, and public health. She has overseen responses to emergencies, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 earthquake that impacted the Salt Lake Valley. Her administration has also prioritized economic development and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of Salt Lake County.
Wilson is a graduate of the University of Utah, where she earned a bachelor's degree in political science. She is married and has two children.
