Artemon (physician)
Artemon was the name of several physicians in antiquity. The most well-known Artemon was likely the personal physician of Seleucus I Nicator, a diadochus (successor) of Alexander the Great and founder of the Seleucid Empire. He is mentioned by several ancient authors, including Plutarch, who describes Artemon's role in treating Seleucus following an injury sustained in battle. Artemon's skills were evidently highly regarded, placing him amongst the prominent medical practitioners of his era. Other individuals named Artemon may also have practiced medicine in the ancient world, though records concerning them are fragmentary or uncertain. Distinguishing these individuals from each other, or from persons of the same name pursuing different professions, can be challenging due to the limited surviving documentation.
