Arpadites
Arpadites are an extinct genus of ammonoid cephalopods belonging to the Ceratitida order. They existed during the Ladinian stage of the Middle Triassic period. Arpadites are characterized by their relatively compressed, evolute shells, and intricate suture patterns which are diagnostic for distinguishing species within the genus and from other related genera. The fossil record of Arpadites is primarily found in the Alpine-Carpathian region, particularly in localities within what is now Hungary, Austria, and surrounding areas. Their presence serves as an important biostratigraphic marker for correlating Middle Triassic marine sedimentary rocks across this region. They provide insights into the paleobiogeography and paleoceanography of the Tethys Ocean during the Triassic period.
