Elves (TV series)
Elves is a Danish horror fantasy television series that premiered on Netflix on November 28, 2021. The series follows a family of four – Jose, Mads, Liv and Kasper – who are on a Christmas vacation to a remote island in the Danish archipelago.
The family's idyllic holiday takes a dark turn when Liv accidentally injures a creature in the woods, which turns out to be a baby elf. This act unleashes the wrath of the island's ancient and malevolent elves, who are bound to a strict code and see humans as a threat to their existence.
The elves, traditionally portrayed as benevolent Christmas figures in Scandinavian folklore, are depicted in the series as monstrous, territorial beings with sharp claws and teeth. They are fiercely protective of their territory and believe in retribution for any perceived wrongs.
As the family tries to survive the escalating conflict with the elves, they uncover the island's dark history and the secrets of the local community, who have lived under the elves' shadow for generations. They must find a way to appease the elves and prevent further bloodshed, all while battling the increasingly hostile environment and the growing desperation of the islanders.
The series explores themes of family dynamics, environmentalism, folklore, and the consequences of interfering with nature. It features a blend of suspense, horror, and fantasy, set against the stark and atmospheric backdrop of the Danish landscape.
The main cast includes Ann Eleonora Jørgensen, Sonja Steen, Milo Campanale, and Vivelill Søgaard Holm.
