Alfred Næss (playwright)

Alfred Næss (1877-1955) was a Norwegian playwright, revue artist, songwriter, and theatre director. He is primarily remembered for his popular revues, particularly those performed at Chat Noir in Oslo during the first half of the 20th century. His revues were known for their satirical wit, catchy melodies, and commentary on contemporary Norwegian society. Næss also wrote a number of plays, some of which were adapted from his revue material. He collaborated with several prominent Norwegian composers and actors, contributing significantly to the development of Norwegian revue tradition. Beyond writing, he also directed and produced many of his own works, solidifying his influence on the Norwegian theatrical landscape.
