Gary Bell (baseball)

Gary Randall Bell (born November 17, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas; died November 26, 2008, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) was an American professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1958 through 1969 for the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, and New York Mets.

Bell primarily played as a starting pitcher. He signed with the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 1955. He made his major league debut on September 21, 1958.

His best season came in 1964 with the Indians, when he went 16-8 with a 3.19 ERA. He also earned a selection to the American League All-Star team that year.

On October 10, 1967, he was traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Boston Red Sox for Tony Horton. Later, on June 14, 1968, Bell was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Chicago White Sox for Jerry Adair. On April 8, 1969, Bell was traded by the Chicago White Sox to the New York Mets for a player to be named later and cash. The New York Mets sent Dennis Ribant to the White Sox on May 29, 1969, to complete the trade.

Bell retired following the 1969 season, having pitched 12 years in the Major Leagues. His career statistics include a 121-117 record, a 3.74 ERA, and 946 strikeouts in 2,026.1 innings pitched.
