Dark Harvest is a 2006 horror novel by American author Norman Partridge. The novel won the 2007 Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel.

Synopsis:

The novel is set in a small, isolated Midwestern town during a particularly brutal autumn. Every Halloween, the town’s teenage boys participate in a deadly competition to hunt down and kill a creature known as "October Boy" (also called "Sawtooth Jack"). The prize for killing October Boy is a one-way ticket out of town and a chance at a better life. The boys are driven by hunger and a desperate desire to escape the grim confines of their predetermined fate. The October Boy is a scarecrow-like being made of pumpkins and other harvest materials that grows stronger with each passing hour.

The story primarily follows Pete McCormick, a young man determined to win the harvest race and escape the town. As the hunt progresses, Pete begins to question the motives behind the annual ritual and the true nature of the town's strange traditions. He uncovers dark secrets about the town's past and the power brokers who manipulate the harvest race for their own benefit.
