Fun (band)

Fun. (stylized as fun.) was an American indie pop band based in New York City. The band was formed in 2008 by Nate Ruess (formerly of The Format), Andrew Dost (formerly of Anathallo), and Jack Antonoff (formerly of Steel Train).

Fun. achieved significant mainstream success with their second album, Some Nights (2012). The album spawned the hit singles "We Are Young" (featuring Janelle Monáe) and "Some Nights," both of which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "We Are Young" received extensive airplay and became a global anthem, while "Some Nights" showcased the band's distinctive blend of indie rock, power pop, and theatrical elements.

Prior to Some Nights, Fun. released their debut album, Aim and Ignite, in 2009. While critically well-received within indie music circles, it did not achieve the same commercial success as their later work. Aim and Ignite established the band's penchant for ambitious arrangements and Ruess's powerful vocals.

Fun. received two Grammy Awards in 2013: Best New Artist and Song of the Year for "We Are Young."

In 2015, Fun. announced that they were not disbanding but would be pursuing individual projects. Since then, the members have focused on their respective solo careers. Nate Ruess released a solo album, Grand Romantic, in 2015. Jack Antonoff formed the band Bleachers and has become a prominent songwriter and producer for various artists. Andrew Dost has worked on film scores and other musical projects.

Although Fun. is currently inactive, their music continues to be popular, and they are remembered for their influential contribution to the indie pop landscape of the early 2010s. Their blend of catchy melodies, layered arrangements, and introspective lyrics resonated with a broad audience.
