Lopezaria

Lopezaria is a genus of extinct brachiopods belonging to the order Productida and the family Monticuliferidae. These marine invertebrates existed during the Permian period. Fossils of Lopezaria have been found in regions that were once located in or near the ancient Tethys Sea, including parts of present-day Asia and possibly other Gondwanan landmasses. The shells of Lopezaria are typically characterized by their semi-circular to sub-quadrate shape and distinctive ornamentation, often featuring spines or pustules. Their study contributes to our understanding of Permian marine ecosystems and the evolution of brachiopods.
