Tracer (TV series)
Tracer is a South Korean action thriller television series that aired on the Wavve and MBC platforms from January 7 to March 25, 2022. The series stars Im Si-wan, Go Ah-sung, Son Hyun-joo, and Park Yong-woo.
Tracer revolves around Hwang Dong-ju (played by Im Si-wan), a talented but somewhat unorthodox accountant with a sharp mind and a tenacious spirit. He joins the National Tax Service, specifically Division 5, also known as the "Tax Crime Investigation Division," or more colloquially as the "Tax Team." This division is notorious within the NTS for tackling cases that are considered too difficult or unprofitable for other teams.
Dong-ju's motivation stems from a personal vendetta related to his father's death, which he believes was connected to corrupt financial dealings. Within Division 5, he works alongside investigator Seo Hye-young (played by Go Ah-sung) and Chief Oh Young (played by Park Yong-woo). Together, they uncover and expose corruption and financial crimes committed by powerful individuals and corporations.
The series explores the complexities of the South Korean tax system, the ethical dilemmas faced by those working within it, and the personal sacrifices made in the pursuit of justice. Son Hyun-joo portrays In Tae-joon, the director of a powerful division within the NTS, who becomes a key figure in the web of corruption that Dong-ju is determined to unravel.
Tracer was generally well-received for its fast-paced plot, strong performances, and its exploration of themes related to justice, corruption, and the abuse of power. The series consisted of two seasons, with the second season released shortly after the first.
