Pixieland (Oregon)

Pixieland was a short-lived amusement park located in Otis, Oregon, operating from 1969 to 1974. Conceptualized and developed by Jerry Parks, Pixieland was themed around a whimsical, idealized version of Oregon's history and natural environment, featuring costumed characters, gentle rides, and live performances intended to appeal to young children and families.

The park's attractions included a train ride that wound through themed areas, a log flume ride, a carousel, and various animal exhibits featuring Oregon wildlife. Characters such as "Paul Bunyan," "Babe the Blue Ox," and various anthropomorphic animals roamed the park interacting with guests. Live musical performances and theatrical shows were also a regular feature.

Despite initial popularity and strong local support, Pixieland faced several challenges that ultimately led to its closure. These included financial difficulties stemming from higher-than-expected operating costs, competition from larger and more established amusement parks, and the oil crisis of the early 1970s, which significantly impacted tourism and discretionary spending.

After closing its gates in 1974, Pixieland fell into disrepair. The attractions were dismantled, and the property was eventually sold. While little remains of the original park structure, Pixieland remains a fond memory for many Oregonians who visited during its brief but memorable existence. Today, the site of Pixieland is occupied by a natural gas power plant.
