Fernando de la Mora (tenor)
Fernando de la Mora (born July 29, 1958, Mexico City, Mexico) is a Mexican operatic tenor renowned for his lyrical voice and versatility.
De la Mora studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City and later in Italy with Carlo Bergonzi and Eduardo Müller. He quickly established himself as a leading tenor, debuting in Mexico City in 1986 as Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore. His international breakthrough came soon after, and he has since performed in major opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera, La Scala, Covent Garden, and the Opéra National de Paris.
His repertoire encompasses a wide range of roles, spanning from bel canto to verismo. He is particularly celebrated for his interpretations of Italian and French roles, including Alfredo in Verdi's La traviata, the Duke of Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto, Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème, Werther in Massenet's Werther, and Roméo in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette. He is also known for his performances in zarzuela, reflecting his Mexican heritage.
De la Mora's voice is characterized by its warmth, lyricism, and secure high notes. He is also admired for his elegant phrasing and dramatic commitment. He has made numerous recordings, showcasing his diverse repertoire and vocal artistry.
