Haymarket Square (band)
Haymarket Square was an American psychedelic rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1967. They were known for their eclectic sound, blending elements of folk, rock, jazz, and classical music. The band's lineup consisted of David St. George (vocals, guitar), John Felice (guitar, vocals), John Hodges (bass), and Garvis Samsom (drums).
Haymarket Square released one self-titled album in 1969 on Verve Records. The album received positive reviews for its innovative arrangements and strong songwriting, but it failed to achieve significant commercial success. Despite their limited discography, Haymarket Square has gained a cult following over the years among collectors of psychedelic rock.
The band's name refers to Haymarket Square, a historic marketplace and site of labor activism in Boston. This connection to a place associated with social justice may have influenced the band's sometimes politically tinged lyrics. Haymarket Square disbanded shortly after the release of their album, with the members pursuing various other musical projects.
