Petr Novák (musician)
Petr Novák (September 6, 1949 – August 19, 1997) was a prominent Czech rock singer, composer, and guitarist. He was a significant figure in the Czech music scene, particularly during the 1960s and 1970s.
Novák began his musical career in the early 1960s with the band Beatles Revival, later co-founding Atlantis with Karel Kahovec. He achieved mainstream success with the band George & Beatovens (later shortened to George & Beatmen), known for their energetic performances and catchy pop-rock songs. Some of his most famous songs from this period include "Já budu chodit po špičkách" ("I Will Walk on Tiptoes") and "Dívka s ofinou" ("Girl with Bangs").
In the late 1960s, the political climate in Czechoslovakia tightened, leading to increased censorship and restrictions on artistic expression. Novák, along with other musicians, faced difficulties in pursuing his career. Despite these challenges, he continued to perform and record, experimenting with different musical styles and incorporating elements of soul and funk into his music.
In the 1970s, he formed the band Petr Novák a jeho George & Beatovens, exploring more complex musical arrangements. He remained a popular performer despite the political pressures, though his music was sometimes subject to official disapproval.

His work is considered an important part of the Czech rock and pop music heritage. He died in 1997 at the age of 47. His music continues to be played and appreciated in the Czech Republic.
