Mark Phillips (Guyanese politician)

Mark Anthony Phillips is a Guyanese politician and retired military officer who currently serves as the Prime Minister of Guyana. He was sworn into office on August 2, 2020.

Prior to entering politics, Phillips had a distinguished career in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). He rose through the ranks to become Chief of Staff of the GDF, a position he held from 2013 to 2016. His military service included extensive training and experience in leadership, strategic planning, and national security.

Following his retirement from the GDF, Phillips entered the political arena as the prime ministerial candidate for the People's Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) in the 2020 general election. The PPP/C won the election, and Phillips became Prime Minister under President Irfaan Ali.

As Prime Minister, Phillips is responsible for a wide range of governmental functions, including oversight of various ministries and the implementation of government policies.
