BPL Group

BPL Group (formerly British Physical Laboratories) is an Indian electronics company. Founded in 1963, it originally focused on manufacturing precision measuring instruments. Over time, BPL expanded into consumer electronics, becoming a prominent brand in India for televisions, audio equipment, and home appliances.

The company experienced significant growth in the 1980s and 1990s, largely due to the liberalization of the Indian economy. BPL entered into a strategic alliance with Sanyo of Japan, further bolstering its product offerings and technological capabilities.

However, in the early 2000s, BPL faced increasing competition from multinational corporations and lower-priced imports. The company underwent restructuring and diversification efforts.

BPL Group's activities have shifted over the years and currently include involvement in healthcare, power, and consumer electronics. The BPL brand continues to be present in the Indian market, albeit with a changed portfolio and market share compared to its peak years.
