Princess Charlotte of Prussia (1831–1855)
Princess Charlotte of Prussia (Alexandra Feodorovna Charlotte Wilhelmine; 21 June 1831 – 30 March 1855) was the eldest daughter of Prince Albert of Prussia and Princess Marianne of the Netherlands. She was a member of the House of Hohenzollern.
Born in Berlin, Princess Charlotte married Georg, Hereditary Prince of Saxe-Meiningen, on 18 May 1850. Georg later became Duke of Saxe-Meiningen in 1866. The marriage was reportedly a happy one, although cut short by Charlotte's early death.
Charlotte and Georg had four children:
- Bernhard III, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen (1851–1928)
- Princess Marie Elisabeth of Saxe-Meiningen (1853–1923)
- Prince Ernst of Saxe-Meiningen (1859–1941)
- Princess Feodora of Saxe-Meiningen (1855)
Princess Charlotte died in childbirth in 1855, at the age of 23, along with her fourth child, Princess Feodora. Her death was a significant loss to her family and to the duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. She is remembered for her beauty, her intelligence, and her charitable works.
