Hysminai

In Greek mythology, the Hysminai (Ὑσμῖναι) were the personified spirits (daimones) of battles, combat, fighting, and conflicts. They were often depicted as companions and attendants of Ares, the god of war, actively participating in the chaos and violence of warfare. As embodiments of the physical act of fighting, they represented the brutal and bloody aspects of battle, rather than the strategic or political motivations behind it. Their Roman equivalent would likely be Bellona's attendants or aspects of conflict accompanying Mars. They are rarely individually named or characterized in surviving texts, functioning more as a collective representation of the horrors of battle.
