Bill Long (baseball)
William David Long (born March 27, 1954) is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) catcher. He played for the Chicago White Sox (1978-1981), Baltimore Orioles (1981-1982), Kansas City Royals (1982-1985), New York Yankees (1985-1986), Pittsburgh Pirates (1987) and Montreal Expos (1987-1988). Long batted and threw right-handed.
During his career, Long was primarily a backup catcher. His best season was 1984 with the Kansas City Royals, where he played in 73 games and batted .278. Long was a member of the 1985 World Series champion Kansas City Royals, although he did not play in the series.
After his playing career, Long worked as a coach and manager in the minor leagues.
