Thomas Bennett (Newfoundland politician)

Thomas Bennett (1852 - 1928) was a Newfoundland businessman and politician. He represented the district of St. John's West in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1900 to 1904 as a member of the People's Party.

Bennett was born in St. John's, Newfoundland. Prior to entering politics, he was a prominent figure in the mercantile community of St. John's. He worked for Ayre & Sons, a significant commercial firm, and later became managing director.

In 1900, he successfully contested the seat for St. John's West. During his term, he participated in debates concerning economic development and social welfare within the colony. He was not re-elected in the 1904 general election.

Bennett remained active in the business world after leaving politics. He served on various boards and continued to contribute to the economic life of Newfoundland. He died in St. John's in 1928.
