Quípama
Quípama is a municipality located in the Western Boyacá Province, in the department of Boyacá, Colombia. It is situated approximately 120 kilometers northwest of Bogotá.
Quípama is known historically as a center for emerald mining. The region's emeralds are prized for their color and quality, and mining has been a significant part of the local economy for centuries. Indigenous populations, particularly the Muzo people, were the original inhabitants and miners of the area.
The municipality's economy is based primarily on agriculture (coffee, sugarcane, and various fruits) in addition to emerald mining. Tourism is also a developing sector, drawing visitors interested in the mining history and the surrounding natural landscape.
Geographically, Quípama is characterized by mountainous terrain and a tropical climate due to its relatively low altitude compared to other parts of Boyacá. The municipality is also traversed by several rivers and streams, contributing to its agricultural potential.
