Rumor Has It (film)

Rumor Has It is a 2005 American romantic comedy film directed by Rob Reiner and starring Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Costner, Shirley MacLaine, and Mark Ruffalo. The film is loosely based on the urban legend that author Charles Webb's novel The Graduate and subsequent film adaptation were inspired by a real-life affair involving his mother and the mother of a friend.

In Rumor Has It, Aniston plays Sarah Huttinger, a young woman who becomes uncertain about her impending marriage and suspects that her family history is not what she thought. She learns that her grandmother, Katharine Richelieu (MacLaine), may have been the inspiration for Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate. This leads Sarah to San Francisco where she meets Beau Burroughs (Costner), the man rumored to have seduced her grandmother years ago and potentially, her biological father. Mark Ruffalo portrays Sarah's fiancé, Jeff Daly.
