Karnak (band)
Karnak was a British progressive rock band active in the early to mid-1970s. They are noted for their complex instrumental arrangements, blending elements of jazz fusion, avant-garde rock, and classical music.
The band's core members included guitarist Bill Connors, keyboardist John G. Perry (later of Caravan), and drummer Peter Van Hooke. Other musicians passed through the lineup during their relatively short existence.
Karnak released only one studio album, Karnak, in 1973 on the Deram label. The album received some critical acclaim for its technical proficiency and originality but failed to achieve significant commercial success.
Following the release of their debut album, Karnak continued to perform and develop new material. However, internal tensions and a lack of mainstream recognition ultimately led to their disbandment in the mid-1970s. While largely overlooked during their time, Karnak has since gained a cult following among progressive rock enthusiasts, and their sole album remains a sought-after item.
