Tropical Storm Emily (2011)

Tropical Storm Emily was the fifth named storm of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season. Emily formed as a tropical depression in the eastern Caribbean Sea on August 1, 2011, and quickly strengthened into a tropical storm. The storm tracked generally westward across the Greater Antilles, impacting Puerto Rico, Hispaniola (primarily the Dominican Republic), and Cuba.

Emily's primary impact was heavy rainfall, which led to significant flooding and mudslides. Puerto Rico experienced widespread power outages and road closures. The Dominican Republic suffered damage to infrastructure and agriculture. Cuba also reported flooding and damage to crops.

While Emily reached tropical storm strength with maximum sustained winds of approximately 50 mph, it was not a particularly strong or long-lived storm. After crossing Hispaniola, Emily weakened back to a tropical depression before briefly re-intensifying. It ultimately dissipated over the Bahamas on August 6, 2011, without making landfall on the continental United States.

No deaths were directly attributed to Tropical Storm Emily (2011). The storm's impact was primarily felt through localized flooding and minor infrastructure damage. It is remembered more for its heavy rainfall than for destructive winds.
