Jan Felkl
Jan Felkl (1777-1845) was a Bohemian educator and cartographer active in 19th-century Austria-Hungary. He is best known for establishing a prominent map publishing house in Prague, which continued operations under his name and that of his successors for many decades. The firm produced maps of Bohemia, the Austrian Empire, and other regions, as well as globes, atlases, and geographical educational materials. His contributions played a significant role in disseminating geographical knowledge and promoting cartographic awareness within the region. The "Felkl" name became associated with quality cartography and was a recognized brand in the industry. His work helped to shape the understanding of geography and cartography during a crucial period of modernization and national development in Central Europe. The company was later run by his son, also named Jan Felkl, and continued its tradition of cartographic excellence.
