II liga
The II liga (Polish for "Second League") is the third tier of professional football in Poland. It sits below the I liga and above the III liga in the Polish football league system. The league is administered by the Polish Football Association (Polski Związek Piłki Nożnej, PZPN). Typically, the top finishing teams are promoted to the I liga, while the bottom finishing teams are relegated to the III liga. The number of promoted and relegated teams can vary slightly from season to season depending on the licensing and restructuring within the higher and lower leagues. The II liga is comprised of 18 teams. At the end of each season, the teams compete for promotion to the I liga or to avoid relegation to the III liga. The competition format involves a double round-robin system where each team plays every other team twice, once at home and once away.
