Paul Messier (ice hockey)

Paul Messier (born November 16, 1958) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. A defenseman, Messier played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils, and Hartford Whalers.

Messier was drafted 125th overall by the Colorado Rockies in the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. He played parts of three seasons with the Rockies before being traded to the New Jersey Devils during the 1980-81 season. He spent the majority of four seasons with the Devils organization, primarily playing for their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.

In 1985, Messier was traded to the Hartford Whalers where he finished his NHL career. His NHL career spanned from 1979 to 1986, during which he accumulated a total of 6 goals and 19 assists for 25 points in 180 regular season games. He also recorded 132 penalty minutes.

Following his NHL career, Messier continued playing professionally in Europe.

He is the younger brother of Hockey Hall of Famer Mark Messier.
