Alex G, short for Alex Giannascoli, is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for his prolific output and diverse musical style. Characterized by lo-fi production, introspective lyrics, and a genre-bending approach incorporating elements of indie rock, alternative, and experimental music, Alex G has garnered a significant following since beginning his career independently. He often releases music under the name Alex G but has also used the monikers (Sandy) Alex G and simply Sandy.

Giannascoli began releasing music independently on Bandcamp, quickly gaining attention for his raw and emotionally resonant sound. His early work often featured home recordings and a DIY aesthetic. This independent approach helped establish a loyal fanbase before he signed with Domino Recording Company.

His albums released through Domino, such as Beach Music (2015), Rocket (2017), House of Sugar (2019), and God Save the Animals (2022), have been critically acclaimed. These albums showcase a growth in production quality while maintaining the core elements of his distinctive songwriting. Recurring themes in his music include mental health, relationships, and personal struggles, often explored through a stream-of-consciousness lyrical style.
