John Hamilton (Queensland politician)

John Hamilton (1832 – 1908) was a pastoralist and politician in Queensland, Australia. He served as a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council from 1863 to 1908.

Born in Scotland, Hamilton emigrated to Australia and became a successful pastoralist in the Darling Downs region of Queensland. He was a prominent figure in the early development of the Queensland pastoral industry.

Appointed to the Queensland Legislative Council on 26 May 1863, he held the seat until his death on 29 April 1908. As a member of the Legislative Council, Hamilton played a role in shaping Queensland's laws and policies, particularly those related to land management and the pastoral industry. He was considered a conservative figure within the council.

His contribution to the early political landscape of Queensland is significant, reflecting the interests of the pastoralist class during a period of significant economic and social development. He is not to be confused with other individuals named John Hamilton.
