Old Rayne
Old Rayne is a village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Located approximately 4 miles (6 km) south-west of Inverurie, it lies in the parish of Rayne. The village is situated on the B993 road.
Historically, Old Rayne was the principal settlement in the parish, predating the growth of nearby larger towns. Its name derives from the Gaelic Raon, meaning "field" or "plain." The addition of "Old" distinguishes it from other places named Rayne.
Key features of Old Rayne include the church, which dates back to the 18th century, and the Rayne North School. The village has a small population and is primarily a residential area supported by agriculture and services in the surrounding towns. Local amenities are limited, and residents generally rely on Inverurie or Aberdeen for shopping and other facilities.
The surrounding area is characterized by rolling farmland and open countryside. Old Rayne offers a rural environment within relatively easy reach of larger urban centers.
