Na h-Eileanan an Iar (Scottish Parliament constituency)
Na h-Eileanan an Iar is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood) covering the Outer Hebrides (Western Isles) of Scotland. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election.
The constituency was created in 1999 with the name Western Isles and was renamed to Na h-Eileanan an Iar in 2005, reflecting the Gaelic name for the island chain.
The constituency encompasses the entire area of the Na h-Eileanan Siar council area. It includes all inhabited islands within the Outer Hebrides, such as Lewis, Harris, Uist, Benbecula, and Barra, as well as numerous smaller uninhabited islands.
The current MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar is Alasdair Allan of the Scottish National Party (SNP). Traditionally, the seat has been a key battleground between the SNP and the Labour party, although other parties have also contested the constituency.
The boundaries of the constituency are coterminous with those of the Na h-Eileanan Siar Westminster constituency, which elects a Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons.
