SMS Zenta

The SMS Zenta was a light cruiser of the Austro-Hungarian Navy, launched in 1897 and commissioned in 1899. She was the sole ship of her class. She was named after the river Zenta, now known as the Senta, which is located in present-day Serbia and Hungary.

Zenta was primarily used for foreign deployments, representing Austria-Hungary in various locations around the world. In 1900, she participated in the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion in China. She also saw service in South America and Africa, often tasked with protecting Austro-Hungarian interests and citizens.

During World War I, SMS Zenta served in the Adriatic Sea. She was sunk on August 16, 1914, off the coast of Antivari (modern-day Bar, Montenegro) by a combined Franco-British fleet. The majority of her crew were rescued by Austro-Hungarian vessels.
